According to the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), as of July 2023, the monetary aggregates in Georgia’s economy have increased to a record high. According to the document, cash in circulation amounts to GEL 5.5 billion making an annual growth of 16%, broad money - M2 amounts to GEL 22.4 billion that is 31.5% more than last year.

As NBG statistics show, broad money is the sum of the following components - cash, a combination of time and savings deposits denominated in national currency of the resident entrepreneurial and household sectors in the banking sector, excluding deposits held by the banking and government sectors.

One of the important functions of the National Bank of Georgia is to control the stock of cash in the country and provide the country's economy with Lari banknotes and coins. The National Bank of Georgia performs this function through commercial banks operating in the country.
