Hydroelectric power is the primary source of electricity generated in Georgia. In total, 113 hydroelectric power stations supply electricity to the state power system, having generated 11 billion kilowatt-hours last year. This volume is 3.1% less than in 2024 due to changes in river water regimes and a decrease in precipitation. Even though the 44.5-megawatt Khobi HPP-2 and the 54-megawatt Mtkvari HPP were commissioned last year, total electricity generation still declined. This decline was primarily driven by reduced output from major hydropower plants: Vartsikhe HPP, the Vardnili HPP Cascade, Rioni HPP, and Gumati HPP.
"
Apart from that, the Enguri HPP's electricity generation increased by 0.8% last year totaling 3.4 billion kilowatt-hours."
