A regular session of the parliamentary commission is being held today, focusing on the factors affecting food, medicine, and fuel prices.
Parliamentarians are expecting the representatives of distribution firms to discuss this issue. The ruling faction expresses optimism regarding the ongoing process and names system enhancement as their paramount aim. Representatives of the opposition, involved in the parliamentary committee, are also voicing their opinions.
As per Shota Berekashvili, head of the parliamentary temporary commission on food, medicine, and fuel pricing, a healthy market competition is the optimal approach to price stabilization.
Another meeting is planned. We are meeting with major importer-distributors, who account for a significant market share providing food and other essential consumer goods to retail chains, shops, and supermarkets.
"Our approach is systemic. Our goal is to create an institutional framework that will improve the system and make the market more competitive and open. Competition is the best way to stabilize prices and, most importantly, bring them down ," Shota Berekashvili points out.
