“Sheep importing from Russia to Georgia are exported as local that poses risks to people as no one controls the health of the sheep,” Beka Gonashvili, head of the Georgian Sheep Breeders Association, says.

According to Gonashvili, re-export would not be a problem if Russian sheep were exported as Russian.

“I don’t see a problem in bringing Russian sheep to Georgia and then exporting them, but the problem is that sheep are exporting from our country as local ones. This can’t be hailed because sick animals will be exported as Georgian sheep and restrictions will be imposed on the local sheep farming causing significant harm to the sector. Еhis has happened many times,” Beka Gonashvili notes.
