According to Zurab Uchumbegashvili, Chairman of the Poultry Development Association, the increase in egg prices is mainly caused by rising chicken feed costs, increased staff salaries, and the logistical challenges faced by transport companies due to city traffic as well as penalties.
Speaking in air of the radio Commersant, Giorgi Uchumbegashvili says that grain, which has increased in price by 25-30%, accounts for 65-70% of the cost of eggs.
Apart from that, over the past 5 years, employee salaries have risen by almost 100%, and if previously one distributor delivered to 30-35 locations per day, this number has now halved due to traffic jams.
Back in October 2025, we were talking about not hiking egg prices before the New Year based on grain costs. But once the New Year passed, we wouldn't be able to keep prices. In fact, eggs have already seen a 2-3 fold increase in price. The main reason is that the surge in grain prices has made food more costly.
"The price of eggs will remain stable if two factors such as the lari’s exchange rate and grain prices do not fluctuate. Currently, there's no need for imports as demand is normal and production has risen by about 12% compared to 2024. We don’t expect any problems until Easter, including price hikes, ," Zurab Uchumbegashvili points out.
