The shortage of qualified personnel continues to be a significant challenges for local businesses, Konstantin Shubitidze, academic director of Skillwill, said an interview with «Commersant».

He noted that the increasing demand in the labor market requires the advancement of vocational education to align with employers' needs. In recent years, both the public and private sectors have become more engaged in this area, developing short-term and practical programs that directly address the needs of the labor market.

International and local studies consistently show a genuine shortage of skilled labor and personnel in the Georgian market. In response, the educational sector has seen a surge in popularity for vocational education in recent years, in both public and private institutions. The key advantage of these programs, compared to higher education and similar offerings, lies in their adaptability to the specific needs of employers. These programs are generally short-term, ranging from approximately 10-11 months to 2 years. Moreover, they focus not only on practical tasks but also include on-the-job training, tailored to the specific requirements of individual employers," Shubitidze strsses.

According to the academic director of Skillwill, a notable demand is observed on IT skills, attracting interest from both young people and individuals of various ages.

«IT skills are the most popular and in demand, and not only among young people. Professional education is very flexible and convenient, because it does not matter if you are 18 years old, you have finished school this year or 45, and you want to change profession. You can study in private or public colleges with government support.

In our experience, we have advertised 1,350 places and received about 4,000 applications, which shows that the demand is really very high.

According to our observations, the most popular areas are frontend-development, graphic design, computer networks and systems, accounting and so on», -noted Konstantin Shubitidze points out.
