The Senate failed to advance Republicans’ government funding proposal this evening as the shutdown hits the two-week mark with no indication there has been any progress to end the stalemate.
The White House budget office said it is preparing to “ride out” the shutdown by continuing layoffs – but noted that troops and law enforcement will be paid. This comes as President Donald Trump said his administration has “identified funds” to pay troops this week and will release a list of Democrat-backed programs that will be cut during the shutdown.
Meanwhile at the White House, Trump hosted Argentine President Javier Milei after the US agreed to provide a $20 billion lifeline to the country. Trump later awarded the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom.
