According to partners, U.S. sanctions against the Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil will cause losses of at least $5 billion per month. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated this at a press conference. Discussing the sanctions details, he stressed that the United States applied them as an effective instrument of pressure.

“What the ‘Russians’, for example, in the person of comrade Dmitriev, are freaking out and say that these sanctions won’t work – this demonstrates that these sanctions will work very strongly. Therefore not through Congress, but personally the president issued them, because he can lift them and, probably, will use this as a tool of pressure or dialogue with ‘Russians’. We believe that these sanctions will reduce their profits by at least 5 billion dollars per month”, – said the president.

According to Zelensky, such figures are cited by partners; they have not yet been confirmed by Ukrainian intelligence.

And most importantly, America’s decision will have an impact of about 56-57% on the oil exports of the ‘Russians’. I think, in a month we will have a clear understanding, once all data have been checked and confirmed by intelligence. It is necessary to ensure that no one circumvents these sanctions”, – said he.

On October 22, the U.S. Department of the Treasury officially announced sanctions against the Russian oil companies Rosneft, Lukoil and their subsidiary firms; this list comprises 34 entries. U.S. President Donald Trump hopes that this will push Russia toward prudence. He also urged the United States’ allies to join the sanctions against Russia and to adhere to them.
