The US and Iran are signaling progress in efforts to end the conflict, but crucial details of a framework agreement are still under negotiation and a US official tells CNN it could take a few more days to finalize. President Donald Trump said a deal is close, but that Washington won’t rush into it and the US naval blockade on Iranian ports would remain during negotiations.
The framework would give negotiators 60 days to iron out a longer-term agreement, according to a senior Trump administration official. The terms surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear program will be critical.
If a deal is reached to end the war and reopen the strait, alleviating the global energy crisis and lowering prices will be a lengthy and complex process.
