Kyiv says Ankara could provide a neutral platform for direct talks. Officials note Turkey’s mediation and prior efforts make it a logical venue for high-level negotiations.

Ukraine adheres to the position that Turkey could become one of the main venues for a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Kremlin head Vladimir Putin.

This was stated by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga during a joint press conference with Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Kyiv. Sibiga emphasized that Ankara played an extraordinarily important role at the start of the grain corridor at the height of the full-scale invasion, and also became an important platform for a number of meetings.

We talked about continuing this role, and we believe that one of the main venues where a meeting between Zelensky and Putin could take place could be Turkey. We support this and are grateful to the Turkish side for their readiness to take on the mission of organizing such a high-level meeting and to provide the appropriate platformAndriy Sibiga states.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister expressed confidence: only a meeting at the leaders’ level can add new dynamism and energy to peaceful efforts. Ukraine has concrete proposals for ending the war and is ready to support all peace initiatives and any possible truce.

According to Sibiga, the situation for Putin is becoming more difficult with each passing day: Ukraine is strengthening its positions on the battlefield and demonstrates success in applying asymmetrical actions on Russian territory. Such developments, in his view, could create conditions for negotiations.
