A tanker carrying 200,000 barrels of gasoline from the Turkish port of Mersin arrived in Primorsk, Russia
Russia received its first tanker shipment of gasoline from Turkey. On August 21, the tanker Wendrix, carrying approximately 200,000 barrels of fuel loaded at the Turkish port of Mersin, was sailing through the Baltic Sea off the coast of Latvia, according to data S&P Global Commodities at Sea.
According to information as of the morning of August 24, the ship Wendrix is in the Russian port of Primorsk.
The vessel, formerly known as the Jasper, is subject to sanctions imposed by the EU, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, and Switzerland. The Port of Mersin has been added to Ukraine’s sanctions list due to suspicions regarding its ties to Russia.
This shipment will be the fifth confirmed maritime delivery of gasoline to Russia since late July and the first to originate in Turkey. Until now, a significant portion of such shipments has come through transshipment hubs near Egypt.
According to S&P Global and Kpler, Russia has received three tankers carrying gasoline loaded at the Vadinar terminal in India and transshipped to other vessels off the coast of Egypt. Another shipment arrived from Morocco in late July, although its actual origin remains unknown.
Overall, maritime gasoline imports into Russia have exceeded 1 million barrels since late July.
