New financing will help Georgian SMEs invest, grow and strengthen their competitiveness and export potential

6 October 2026 – The Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) is strengthening its support for Georgia’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with a new EUR 25 million financing facility for Basisbank, signed today in Tbilisi during the “Business Dialogues” Forum.

Under the agreement, BSTDB will provide the long-term financing to Basisbank for on-lending to Georgian SMEs, enabling businesses across the country to finance investments, working capital and expansion.

SMEs are a key driver of Georgia’s economy, supporting employment, entrepreneurship and innovation. By expanding access to finance, the new facility will help businesses strengthen their productivity and competitiveness, pursue new investment opportunities and increase their capacity to access regional and international markets.

The agreement further strengthens the longstanding partnership between BSTDB and Basisbank and expands the Bank’s support for Georgia’s private sector. It also contributes to BSTDB’s broader mandate of promoting sustainable economic development, resilience and stronger business links across the Black Sea region.

Signing the loan agreement, Ziya Aliyev, Vice President Banking, said: “Supporting Georgia’s dynamic SME sector is a priority for BSTDB. Through our strong partnership with Basisbank, we are helping businesses access the financing they need to invest, grow and create new opportunities. Signing this agreement at our ‘Business Dialogues’ Forum in Tbilisi underlines the importance of partnerships in supporting private sector development and strengthening economic ties across the Black Sea region.”

“Access to long-term financing helps Georgian businesses turn their business goals into investment, expansion and new jobs. The new EUR 25 million facility will enable Basisbank to support more SMEs as they expand their operations, strengthen their competitiveness and pursue opportunities in domestic and international markets. We value our longstanding partnership with BSTDB and the continued confidence it places in Basisbank. Together, we are helping Georgian SMEs build stronger businesses and contribute to the country’s economic growth,” said David Tsaava, General Director of Basisbank.

The facility builds on more than 14 years of cooperation between BSTDB and Basisbank, during which the two institutions have worked together to broaden access to finance for Georgian businesses and support the development of the country’s financial sector.
