Turkish Airlines has cancelled all flights from Moscow and St. Petersburg to Antalya, Bodrum and Dalaman today. The only remaining destinations on the schedule are Istanbul.
Thousands of people are stuck: some are sitting in Turkish hotels without a clear understanding of when they will be taken out, others are nervously checking the news.
More than 400 flights have already been canceled at Moscow airports due to restrictions imposed after drone attacks. This whole story has affected more than 50,000 passengers.
The Ajet flight from Istanbul to St. Petersburg looked particularly dramatic — the plane was turned around over Romania and sent back. Passengers heard the version about the "closure of the airspace over Pulkovo," but no one gave official confirmation. Tickets are promised to be reissued on May 10, but people don't have much confidence in these promises anymore.
So if you are currently planning to fly between Russia and Turkey, check everything three times and prepare for surprises. And if you're already stuck, hold on. It looks like it's going to take a long time.
