Russia is taking all measures to counter Kyiv’s provocations at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, but the situation remains quite tense. This was stated by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.

The situation is quite tense, because the threat of sabotage from the Kyiv regime is really great. Sabotage, which can be catastrophic in its consequences,” Peskov stressed.

According to the press secretary of the president, Kyiv has previously demonstrated its readiness “to disdain nothing” and cited the blowing up of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station as an example. “Therefore, of course, all measures are being taken to counter such a threat,” Peskov added.

On July 5, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Kyiv was planning to carry out a terrorist attack at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. A similar statement was made by adviser to the general director of the Rosenergoatom concern Renat Karchaa, who on the evening of July 4 announced that Kiev plans to strike the station on the night of July 5, including dropping ammunition filled with radioactive waste.

On June 30, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that on June 29, at a meeting of the UN Security Council, Russia again circulated an official document in which it expressed concern over provocations by Ukraine. The minister stressed that IAEA experts and the agency’s director general Rafael Grossi “know very well who is shelling” the Zaporizhzhya NPP. He called Kyiv’s accusations against Russia about an allegedly impending provocation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant a lie.

Zaporozhye NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Since the end of February 2022, ZNPP has been under Russian control. The Russian side has repeatedly reported that the station and the city of Energodar, where it is located, are subjected to regular shelling by Ukraine.
