Russia has not yet agreed to extend the Black Sea Grain Agreement, claiming that commitments have not been fulfilled. The last ship under the agreement has left the port of Odessa ahead of its expiration on Monday. The UN is awaiting a response from Russian President Putin on the extension.
The last ship to travel under the UN- and Türkiye-brokered deal allowing the safe export of Ukrainian grain to the Black Sea left the port of Odessa early on Sunday, Reuters reported.
Russia has refused to allow new ships to pass since June 27. The initiative will expire on Monday unless Moscow agrees to extend the deal.
Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on whether the Turkish-flagged TQ Samsun has left Odessa.
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is awaiting a response from Russian President Vladimir Putin on a proposal to extend the agreement, a United Nations spokesman said on Friday.
Putin said in a phone call with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Saturday that Russia's commitments to remove barriers to food and fertilizer exports and maintain the Black Sea Grain Agreement have not yet been fulfilled, the Kremlin said in a statement.
Russia has repeatedly threatened to withdraw from the UN and Türkiye-brokered agreement in July 2022. The agreement was extended for two months on May 17.
Ukraine and Russia are among the world's largest grain exporters.
