On Tuesday, July 1, Denmark assumed the presidency of the Council of the European Union, which will last until December 31, 2025.
This was announced on the official website of the Danish EU Presidency.
Under the motto “A Strong Europe in a Changing World,” the Danish presidency will work for a secure Europe, as well as a competitive and green Europe, according to the program’s description.
It is emphasized that the EU is facing a new international order characterized by uncertainty, global strategic and economic competition, and growing levels of conflict.
“That is why the EU must be able to act independently. The EU's strength lies, among other things, in European unity, a solid economic foundation, stable democracies, and socially balanced societies,” the Danish EU Presidency stated.
They stressed that this strength must be developed and used to promote and protect European interests and the international rule of law.
It is noted that this requires the bloc to back words with action and to respond to the challenges it faces.
The Danish Presidency also emphasized that the green transition is vital for building a safer and more competitive Europe.
Denmark’s Minister for European Affairs, Marie Bjerre, stated that in today’s changing geopolitical landscape, Europe must become significantly stronger economically, politically, and militarily.
