The carmaker Stellantis on Wednesday 28 May announced the appointment of Italian Antonio Filosa as CEO. He replaces Carlos Tavares, who was ousted in December.
The vagueness lasted almost six months. Since the departure of Carlos Tavares at the end of 2024, the management of Stellantis has been waiting for its new driver. This is now done: on Wednesday 28 May, the carmaker announced the appointment of Italian Antonio Filosa as CEO.
Trained as an engineer, the 51-year-old Italian is a product of the Fiat-Chrysler (FCA) group, which he joined in 1999. He was one of the internal favourites to take the reins of the giant created by the merger between PSA and FCA. Appointed at the end of 2024 as head of operations for North and South America, he also oversaw the group’s American brands (Chrysler, Dodge, Ram), as well as steering the new global quality department since February.
This appointment comes at the end of a “thorough” selection process, conducted by a special committee of the board of directors chaired by its executive chairman John Elkann. “In this next crucial phase of Stellantis’ development, Antonio demonstrates a true understanding of our industry, our company and its people, which he sees as our greatest strength,” said Elkann. His appointment was unanimously approved, the company said in a statement released on Wednesday morning.
To formalise this transition, an extraordinary general meeting will be called in the next few days to elect him as executive director of Stellantis. In the meantime, the board of directors has granted him full powers as CEO with effect from 23 June.
