As per the official census of stray dogs, 30,150 dogs are registered in the capital. The research show that only 32% or 10,500 dogs of the officially registered homeless dogs are sterilized.
The study was commissioned by the Animal Monitoring Agency which says that in 2024 the focus will be on sterilization of dogs.
Note: a large-scale survey of stray dogs in Tbilisi was conducted for three months in 2023. As reported, this was the first stray dog census since 2015.
