School uniforms will be mandatory in public schools from first to sixth grade.
Starting from the next academic year, school uniforms will be reintroduced in public schools on a pilot basis for pupils in Years 1 to 6, announced Education Minister Givi Mikanadze during the presentation of the broader education reform.
According to Mikanadze, the government will provide support to socially vulnerable families.
“We have decided that school uniforms will become mandatory in all public schools for pupils from Year 1 to Year 6, as part of a pilot scheme that takes into account the needs of socially vulnerable families. All families assessed by the Ministry of Health with a score of 60,000 points or less will receive appropriate support from the state regarding uniforms,” he explained.
