The Government of Georgia, based on the appeal of the Central Election Commission, announced October 25 as a public holiday.

According to the information of the Central Election Commission, the decision of the government was based on an appeal to the CEC, according to which, since the polling stations are located in public schools and kindergartens, the activity on working days may hinder the timely arrangement of the polling stations.

The CEC explains that for the proper functioning of the precinct election commissions of the next elections of the Parliament of Georgia, an important stage is the arrangement of the election precincts, which takes place on the day before the voting, and on this day, the relevant inventory and equipment will be placed at the election precincts.

"Out of 3,031 election precincts, 483 election precincts are located in kindergarten buildings, 1,675 election precincts are located in public school buildings, and 873 election precincts are in buildings of other purposes. Based on the fact that, especially in public schools and kindergartens, where election precincts are located, various activities and activities are carried out on working days, which can hinder the timely and peaceful arrangement of the election precincts, it is requested to declare October 25, 2024 as a public holiday", it is stated in the information released by the government.
