The Dengue virus (DENV) has been confirmed in Georgia, as per Ivane Chkhaidze, the Medical Director of Iashvili Central Children’s Hospital.
He confirmed that the virus was detected in one individual last week. However, Chkhaidze did not disclose further details regarding the case.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne virus, with an incubation period that usually ranges from five to seven days, and can extend up to fifteen days in its classic form. The initial symptoms include severe chills and a high fever, often reaching 39 to 41 degrees Celsius, accompanied by intense headaches, muscle aches, and joint pain.
Regarding the Ebola virus, Chkhaidze assured that no cases have been reported in Georgia and that there is no risk of its spread within the country.
