The Chairman of the Union of Bread Producers talks in a conversation with Commersant about a decrease in bread and bakery products consumption. Malkhaz Dolidze explains that by excess of other products on the market, including bread substitutes.
"Bread consumption is a kind of social barometer. When there is a surplus of other products, bakery products are sold less. Sales also have peaks, for example New Year. Earlier, Georgia consumed about 800-900 thousand tons, the consumption dropped to 700 thousand tons. If Tbilisi used to consume 420 tons of bread, now 300 tons of bread are sold. Flour products are sold in the shops, at every step there are bakeries that sell baked goods,''- Malkhaz Dolidze notes.
first quality bread loaf is the most sold in the country. In the words of the Chairman of the Union of Bread Producers, demand for black and rye bread has soared recently.
"In Georgia, demand for first-quality bread is traditionally high. People mostly consume loaf bread. There is also demand for black bread that is consumed a lot," Malkhaz Dolidze points out.
