We expect a fair decision on our candidate status in December - we are not shying away from commitments. We are ready to do everything necessary to reach our destination in order to become a member state of the European Union, said the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, at a briefing with the Prime Minister of Croatia.
According to him, if the European Union grants Georgia the status of a candidate country, it will be a well-deserved recognition of the successful reforms and positive transformation implemented in the country.
"In recent years, Georgia has achieved excellent results in terms of the rule of law, economic development, strengthening of social security, and we see the recognition of international authoritative organizations. I would also like to say that ideal freedom determined Georgia's desire to join the European Union, and we are closer to this national goal now than we have ever been. Visa liberalization, association agreement, including free trade space are the tangible achievements that our government has achieved in recent years.
Last year, European leaders, including Croatia, decided to give Georgia a European perspective, which created unprecedented momentum on this path. A year or more has passed since this historic moment, and we have proven that we have the strongest will to fulfill our obligations and become a member of the European Union. In December of this year, we expect a fair decision, a strategic decision, I would say, a political decision from Europe, which concerns our candidacy status. This will be another historic decision and well-deserved recognition of the successful reforms and positive transformation implemented in the country. We are fully aware that joining the European Union entails long-term obligations and responsibilities. It is a long but satisfying process. We do not shy away from these commitments. We are ready to do everything necessary to reach our destination in order to become a member state of the European Union," said the Prime Minister.
In addition, Irakli Gharibashvili noted that Georgia has always been the most reliable partner of the European Union in our region.
"Georgia remains loyal to the European Union and its reliable partner. The current geopolitical context has shown us the great need to overcome the energy and food security challenges of diversified connections in Europe and around the world. "Georgia has an important role in solving these challenges, because it has the potential of regional energy transit, transportation of goods and digital connections," Gharibashvili said.
