According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, passenger traffic at Georgian airports increased by 16% in January 2026. The ministry reports that a total of 2,873 flights were operated during the same period, representing a 16.17% increase compared to January last year. The agency also highlights a significant growth in cargo transport, which in January 2026 exceeded 38%, compared to the same month in 2025.
“In terms of passenger numbers, Georgian airports served 613,933 travellers in the first month of this year. Breaking down the figures across the country’s international airports: Tbilisi International Airport handled 430,034 passengers, Kutaisi International Airport handled 138,028, and Batumi International Airport handled 44,894.
The volume of cargo transported in January 2026 reached 3,147.16 tonnes, a 38.75% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Additionally, the utilisation of Georgian airspace rose by 9.56% year-on-year. In total, 24,387 flights, including takeoffs, landings, and overflights, were recorded during the first month of 2026.
It is also noteworthy that 2025 marked a record-breaking year for Georgian aviation. Last year, the sector experienced unprecedented growth across all major indicators. Georgian airports handled a total of 8,494,640 passengers, setting a new national record. The year also saw a record 38,218 flights, a 17.5% increase over 2024. In terms of air cargo, the volume reached 38,578.379 tonnes, another record for Georgian airports, with a 50% increase compared to the previous year,” the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development stated.
