Georgia’s unemployment rate down in Q1

In the I quarter of 2026, the unemployment rate in Georgia decreased by 0.3 percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and equaled 14.4 percent.

In the I quarter of 2026, the labour force participation rate decreased by 1.4 percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and became 53.4 percent, while the employment rate decreased by 1.0 percentage points and amounted to 45.7 percent. The labour force participation rate decreased in urban settlements by 2.4 percentage points, while in rural settlements it increased by 0.1 percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The employment rate decreased by 1.9 percentage points in urban settlements, while in rural settlements increased by 0.1 percentage points and equaled 45.9 percent and 45.4 percent, respectively.

In the I quarter of 2026, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the share of employees in total employment decreased by 1.3 percentage points and equaled 67.5 percent.

In the I quarter of 2026, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the unemployment rate decreased in urban settlements by 0.3 percentage points, while in rural settlements it decreased by 0.2 percentage points.

The unemployment rate is traditionally higher for men than for women. In the I quarter of 2026, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, this rate increased by 0.5 percentage points for women, while for men it decreased by 0.8 percentage points and amounted to 12.1 percent and 16.2 percent, respectively.

The labour force participation rate is higher for men than for women. In the I quarter of 2026, the indicator for women was 43.4 percent and for men was 64.9 percent. The labour force participation rate for women decreased by 1.1 percentage points, while for men it decreased by 1.6 percentage points, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

In the I quarter of 2026, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the employment rate for women decreased by 1.2 percentage points, while for men – by 0.8 percentage points.
