Georgia has launched car exports to Syria. Moreover, the country is among the top ten largest car re-exporters. Alexey Noniadze, founder of Georgian Association of Auto Importers, says that Syria could be an interesting market for Georgia and we should consider it as an alternative.

“However, it is necessary to conduct relevant research and understand what is in demand in Syria and how profitable this market will be for Georgian dealers,” Noniadze explains.

It is noteworthy that in January-April 2025, Georgia sold 70 cars to Syria worth $594,000, which is quite a large figure. Statistics show that Georgia last exported cars to Syria in 2018. Then, only 4 cars were re-exported.

Apart from Syria, the upward trend in the cost of auto exports is also observed in other countries. In January-April 2025, car re-exports from Georgia amounted to $754 million that is an annual increase in value of 31%. According to official statistics, the main market for car exports is Kyrgyzstan, where auto exports worth $408 million were carried out in the reporting period, followed by Kazakhstan with $219 million and Azerbaijan.

As for car imports, Georgia imported cars worth about $1 billion as of January-April. In the first four months of 2025, Georgia imported 55,000 passenger cars worth $966,000. This is approximately 10% more in value and 6% less in quantity. According to existing statistics, the number one market for Georgia’s passenger car imports is the United States which accounts for 90% of the total car imports. Germany and Japan are the second and the third.
