Imports of shellfish (molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates) rocketed by 163.4% in the last five years.

In January-December 2023, 112.28 tons of molluscs worth $1,011,420 were brought into Georgia that is 2.63 times more than in the same period of 2019.

As per the National Statistics Office of Georgia, the main importing country was Ukraine but last year it was replaced by China.

China accounts for 39.41% of the total imports in 2023., followed by India, which accounts for 14.25% of imports and the Netherlands with 12.05%.
