“Today, we celebrate the commencement of construction for the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, a project of paramount strategic importance for our country,” announced Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at the presentation of the water infrastructure project.

According to the Prime Minister, approximately 500 people will be employed in construction and logistics. Kobakhidze noted that the port’s capacity at the initial stage is projected to accommodate 600,000 containers, with an anticipated investment value of USD 600 million.

The Prime Minister further stated that the Belgian company Jan De Nul, which won the tender, has a strong international reputation and extensive experience in maritime construction. The company began its preliminary work on September 16.

Kobakhidze highlighted that Jan De Nul has been involved in significant projects, including the expansion of the Panama Canal, the construction of a new port in Monaco, and the development of Dubai’s artificial islands and beachfront.

You will agree that this impressive portfolio underscores the unique expertise of this company, and we are pleased to have them involved in the development of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port,” he remarked.

In addition, the Prime Minister indicated that the process of selecting a private partner for the port project is progressing, with the final details of the submitted proposal being discussed with the Chinese-Singaporean consortium. He assured that the partnership agreement and concession agreement would be signed shortly.
