“Talks are not yet launched. But I can only hail the abolishment of a visa regime and the restoration of direct flights. I am very glad that our government is positive in this regard. I will watch how things develop as a lot should be done. The resumption of regular flights does not happen in one day,” Georgian Airways CEO Tamaz Gaiashvili says.
Russian media outlets report that Russian airlines is drawing up flight schedule to Georgia but Gaiashvili notes that the company should start preparing for flights.
“The Russian side is probably ready, but we are not yet. We will meet next week to make the final decisions. We definitely are very interested in this. Can anyone tell me why Russian planes can fly to Yerevan, Baku, Turkey, but not to Tbilisi? Can anyone explain why one can travel to Russia and from Russia to other countries by bike, car or tractor, and can't by plane? In a democracy people should be given freedom of choice,” the Georgian airline CEO believes.
