Last year, coffee imports to Georgia became more expensive. According to Geostat, Georgia purchased 6,587 tons of coffee worth $34.8 million in the first 11 months of 2024. While in 2023, in the same period, the country purchased a larger volume, 6,960 tons of the product for $28.2 million.
Accordingly, Georgia's coffee imports increased by 23.5% in value, while they decreased by 5.4% in quantity, which indicates an increase in the cost of imports.
The price increase can be explained by a global trend. Due to supply chain disruptions and climatic conditions, the price of coffee in the world has increased, including Robusta coffee, which has become more expensive to a 45-year maximum.
The country buys the largest amount of coffee from Indonesia, which share in total coffee imports is 37%. However, it should be noted that there is a decrease in imports from this country. Last year, in 11 months, Georgia purchased 2,452 tons of coffee worth $9.5 million from Indonesia, and in the same period of 2023 - 3,087 tons, for which it paid $7.8 million.
