Purchase prices for blueberries dropped drastically in Georgia this week.
In particular, at the beginning of the season, about 20 days ago, the price was GEL 20 per kilogram, now it doesn’t exceed GEL 7-10.
Farmers say that blueberries price depends on the product’s available quantity on the market, the price is regulated by the Russian market as Russia accounts for the largest share of exports of this type of berry.
“Every year starting from June 15 prices fall amid the late harvest. Apart from that, in this period Russia imports blueberries from Serbia and Belarus. Due to high competition, exporterscan’t sell the product at the same price as before and are forced to reduce purchase prices,” David Makashvili, Chairman of the Georgian Blueberry Producers Council, notes.
