Lufthansa has tightened its 2026 hand luggage policies, strictly enforcing a 1-piece, 8kg limit for Economy/Premium Economy (2 pieces for Business/First) and a 40x30x10cm personal item limit. Non-compliant bags incur €60-€110 gate fees, while high-occupancy flights may force cabin bags into the hold.

Key Changes and Restrictions (2026):

Gate Fees: Luggage exceeding size/weight limits, or too many items, will be checked at the gate for €60–€110 per piece, payable only by credit card.

Strict Enforcement: Even bags 1–2 kg over the 8 kg limit may incur penalties of €50–€150.

Power Bank Ban: Power banks are now prohibited in checked luggage and must be carried in the cabin; they also cannot be used or charged in-flight.

Limited Space: On full flights, compliant carry-on bags may be forced into the hold, with passengers notified to check them in earlier for free.

Musical Instruments: Following negotiations, violin cases up to 125cm (combined dimensions) are allowed.
