Every fifth aircraft of Russian airlines is out of service due to maintenance and sanctions. This summer, 130 aircraft, 19.3 percent of the fleet, of Russia's largest airlines, which account for over 90 percent of passenger traffic, are grounded. In a typical peak season, this figure does not exceed 10 percent. Excluding the Aeroflot Group, one-third of the fleet, 93 out of 322 aircraft, is already out of service. The main reason is prolonged maintenance work.
The hardest hit are aircraft with engines whose repairs are complicated by sanctions. S7 Airlines has grounded 32 aircraft from the A320neo family due to engine problems. In Rossiya Airlines, 22 percent of the fleet has been grounded, including long-range Boeing aircraft. In Nordwind Airlines, 44 percent of aircraft are out of service. Charter airline Azur Air is operating only six of its 23 aircraft.
