Thanks to peace with Azerbaijan, Armenia can become a transit country for the first time in its independent history, although it is not as such yet, Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev has announced.

“Thanks to this, we will be able to establish a direct connection between the main part of Azerbaijan and our exclave, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic,” Aliyev added.

According to him, after the establishment of peace with Armenia, “we are working closely to expand the Middle Corridor, which also passes through the territory of Armenia.”

Aliyev noted that the demand for cargo transportation through the territory of Azerbaijan is growing. He emphasized that the disruption of transport links as a result of conflicts creates an extremely difficult situation for most of the international community.

According to the Azerbaijani leader, however, Armenia and Azerbaijan have achieved peace not only on paper, as "there is calm on the borders, trade ties are established," and "long-term peace has been sealed for centuries."
