Speaking at a press briefing, Kobakhidze stated that the government remains confident due to what he described as public support, while suggesting that the opposition is concerned about positive developments in relations with the United States.

We have had several communications, including my communication with Mr. Rubio, and all of this maintains our belief that a reset of Georgian-American relations is possible,” Kobakhidze said.

He added that the opposition is “nervous about positive trends,” while the government, in his words, welcomes them.

We feel very strong, based on the support of our society. As for Georgian-American relations, which our opposition is very nervous about, we have had several communications, including my communication with Mr. Rubio, and all of this maintains our belief that a reset of Georgian-American relations is possible. This is today’s reality. Let us wait calmly for events to develop. The opposition is nervous about positive trends. We are glad about positive trends,” he said.

Kobakhidze also commented on the visit of Peter Andreoli, a representative of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, saying that it provides an opportunity for detailed discussions.

Within the framework of the visit, we will have the first opportunity to discuss details. First of all, we will wait for the American side’s position, including their interests, and we will act accordingly. We will first wait for their position on all issues.

From the very beginning, we expressed our position: our hand is extended. We are ready, from a clean slate and with a concrete roadmap, to restore the strategic partnership with the United States, which was suspended by the previous administration. We have clearly stated this from the beginning, and we have been waiting for the American side’s position. We are pleased that recently there have been positive trends, and we will wait for further developments,” the Prime Minister said.
