The Georgian nation is in an active phase of aging. Increased mortality, low birth rates, a growing number of elderly people and doubled migration by 2030 will pose a real threat.
The United Nations Population Division (UNPD) predicts that the population will further decline and age in the coming decades.
The low birth rate in the country and the negative balance of migration lead to the aging of the population and its reduction.
As per Sakstat data, the share of the population aged 65 and over is increasing. In 2001, their number was 13.1 percent of the population, in 2015 stood at 14.27 percent of the total population, in 2022 – to up to 22 percent (808,326 people).
Statistics show that approximately 864,312 pensioners live in Georgia, while according to official information, the current population of the country is 3.694 million, it turns out that every fourth citizen of Georgia is a pensioner.
