According to Zurab Uchumbegashvili, head of the Poultry Development Association, egg prices in Georgia are set to rise by no more than 2 tetri.
In his words, price hikes are expected after the New Year. Uchumbegashvili cited rising labor costs as a primary driver for this.
The price of eggs in December will definitely not increase because we have already made a decision.
Due to traffic jams, distributors cannot park their cars outside the store, leading to an increase in fines. Our expenses have risen quite significantly, and most likely, eggs will become 1.5–2 tetri more expensive from February.
Answering the question of whether the increased demand in the pre-New Year days, amid a significant reduction in imports will cause an egg shortage in the country, the head of the Association stated that there would be enough eggs during the holidays.
Recall that in the past few days there has been a shortage of eggs on the shelves of grocery stores due to a significant cut in egg imports into the country.
In particular, from January to October 2025, egg imports to Georgia plummeted by 93.1% compared to the same period last year. Moreover, the Statistics Office reports that import level in 2025 is at an 11-year low.
