The US House of Representatives will consider the MEGOBARI Act today, the House of Representatives reports.
The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee supported the MEGOBARI Act on March 27.
The bill, titled Mobilizing and Enhancing Georgia’s Options for Building Accountability, Resilience, and Independence (MEGOBARI) Act, was introduced in the House of Representatives last year by Congressman Joe Wilson, and was reintroduced this year in the 119th Congress by Congressman Steve Cohen [D-USA], Congressman Richard Hudson [R-USA], and Congressman Mark Wiese [D-USA]. According to the congressmen, the MEGOBARI Act expresses support for the Georgian people and provides for sanctions against Georgian officials for, among other things, human rights violations and the undermining of democracy.
