There were less than 800 hotels in our country in 2012, and already this year the number of hotels is about 2400. The number of hotel places has increased from 23,000 to 108,000, - Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze announced this during his speech at the opening event of "Bodbe" hotel in Sighnaghi.
According to the Prime Minister, the number of hotels has tripled in 12 years, the number of hotel places has increased 4.5 times.
"It is important that the economy in our country is developing at a fast pace. In this regard, we are in advanced positions, not only in the region, but throughout Europe. We are ahead of all European countries in terms of economic growth, and it is very important for us to maintain this pace. In this regard, the development of tourism is of particular importance. Tourism is one of the most important sectors of our economy, and in the future we should pay great attention to the development of this area. In addition to the importance of the right economic policy and economic environment, the importance of peace and stable development should be emphasized, because without peace and stability, the economy of any country cannot develop. Therefore, along with maintaining a proper economic and business environment, it is of particular importance to maintain a peaceful and stable environment in our country. I would like to recall some statistical indicators that indicate the development of tourism: there were less than 800 hotels in our country in 2012, and already this year the number of hotels is about 2400. The number of hotel places increased from 23,000 to 108,000. That is, the number of hotels has tripled in 12 years, and the number of hotel places has increased 4.5 times. By 2028, we have a very specific plan, there are ongoing projects, and by this period the number of hotels will increase to 2,700 and there will be 140,000 hotel places in our country," the Prime Minister said.
According to the head of the government, Kakheti has a special tourist potential and the opening of "Bodbe" hotel will further contribute to the development of this potential.
"Hospitality for us is not only a branch of the economy, but it is a part of our culture, and in this regard, the development of tourism and this sector is also important for us. By 2028, we think the number of tourists will reach 11 million. Revenues from tourism will increase to 6.5 billion. This needs additional support, and naturally, this support from our side will continue.
Kakheti has a special tourism potential, the project will contribute to the development of this potential. We will do many things to further develop tourism in Kakheti. In this regard, the infrastructural projects that are being implemented are important. A four-lane highway connecting Tbilisi-Sagarejo has already been opened. Next year, the section up to Badiauri will be opened, and the construction of the highway up to Chalaubi will be completed later. After that, for example, it will take about one hour to drive from Tbilisi to this hotel. Such projects will contribute to the development of additional tourism in Kakheti. I am sure that this hotel will become one of the favorite places for guests, for leisure, for business visits, and I want to wish great success to each person who was involved in the implementation of this extraordinary project," said the Prime Minister.
