US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said on the 21st (local time) that if the US military’s anti-Iran maritime blockade in and around the Strait of Hormuz continues, the storage tanks on Kharg Island, which hosts Iran’s largest oil export terminal, will reach full capacity.

Besant wrote on X: “As (Donald Trump) the US President has made clear, the US Navy will continue the blockade of Iranian ports.”

He added, “Within days, the (crude) storage tanks on Kharg Island will be full, and Iran’s vulnerable oil wells will be shut down.”

This is interpreted to mean that if US maritime blockades choke off the Iranian regime’s main revenue source of oil exports, the crude storage facilities on Kharg Island, Iran’s oil export hub, will reach capacity and drilling at the wells will effectively cease.

Besant warned, “Restricting Iran’s maritime trade directly targets the regime’s main source of revenue,” adding, “The Treasury will sustain maximum pressure through an ‘Operation Economic Wrath’ to systematically weaken Tehran’s ability to generate, move, and remit funds.”

He also stressed, “Individuals or vessels that enable these flows through clandestine trade and finance may be subject to US sanctions,” adding, “We will continue to freeze funds embezzled by the corrupt leadership for the Iranian people.”
