U.S. President Donald Trump on February 18 said there was no accountability of money on the Ukraine conflict.
"You know, another thing that has been bothering me for a long time. <...> I think last week the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky (whose term expired on May 20, 2024. - Ed.), said he didn't know where half of the money we gave him was. Well, we gave them, I think, $350 billion. But let's say a little less, but it's still a lot," he commented.
Trump also chided Europe for its much smaller financial investment in the Ukraine conflict compared to the U.S. contribution.
"I think Europe has given $100 billion and we've given, let's say, $300 billion-plus. And it's more important for them than for us. We have an ocean in between and they don't. But where is all this money that has been allocated? Where is it going? I've never seen an accounting of it. We give hundreds of billions of dollars. I don't see any accountability. That's why I want peace," he noted.
In early February, Zelensky said in an interview with the Associated Press that he had no idea where the $200 billion allocated by the United States for military aid had gone. According to him, Kiev has only received more than $75bn from Washington.
