Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in New York on Monday for talks.
The closed-door meeting at the Turkish House, or Turkevi Center, came on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting.
Erdogan and Kobakhidze discussed bilateral relations between Türkiye and Georgia as well as regional and global developments, according to Türkiye's Communications Directorate.
Erdogan expressed satisfaction that Türkiye has been Georgia's largest trading partner for the past 18 years, saying Ankara would continue taking steps to further advance cooperation between the two countries, particularity in the areas of trade, transportation and security, said the statement.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining solidarity between Türkiye and Georgia in international forums.
He said making the most effective use of cooperation mechanisms involving Türkiye, Georgia and Azerbaijan would benefit all three countries.
Türkiye recognized the independence of Georgia in 1991. The Protocol on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries was signed in 1992.
Türkiye’s relations with Georgia are at the strategic partnership level.
