Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Gharibashvili is leaving the party. Gharibashvili announced this at a briefing at the party's office.

"Today I would like to inform you of my decision to leave politics. Speculations regarding my future political activities have been ongoing for the past few weeks. Accordingly, I consider myself obligated to the public to provide comprehensive answers to the questions raised. Up until now, every step I have taken in my political life has been based on a specific goal - to serve our country and people and strengthen our state. Accordingly, my main motivation, as one of the patriots of this country, has always been love for my homeland, and hence, my sincere and strong desire to contribute one solid brick to strengthening our country," said Irakli Gharibashvili.

Irakli Gharibashvili has been involved in the activities of the Georgian Dream since the party's founding in 2012, and has twice held the posts of both Prime Minister and party chairman.

More specifically, in 2012-2013, he was the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, and on November 20, 2013, he was first appointed Prime Minister of Georgia. He held this post until December 30, 2015. He was also the Chairman of the political party Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia in 2013-2015. He was the Minister of Defense of Georgia from September 8, 2019 to February 22, 2021. He was appointed Prime Minister for the second time on February 22, 2021, and held this post until January 29, 2024. On February 1 of the same year, Gharibashvili was elected chairman of the Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party.
