Georgia’s accession to the European Union by 2030 is achievable,” declares Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in an exclusive interview with Euronews.

The Prime Minister emphasizes the need for greater flexibility from Brussels in the EU membership negotiation process.

As Kobakhidze notes in the interview, “The ball is now in Brussels’ court.” The European Union needs more flexibility in its approach toward new members. He acknowledges that Georgia faces significant challenges with European bureaucracy, yet remains quite optimistic about becoming an EU member by 2030.

We will steadfastly move toward this goal and hope that the approach toward Georgia will be more fair in the coming years,” states the Prime Minister.

According to Euronews, Kobakhidze believes that the current unhealthy relationship between Georgia and the EU is not due to Georgia’s policies but rather to European bureaucratic policies toward Georgia. If these policies change, everything will improve.

The current state of our relations is unacceptable to us. We are interested in having healthy relations with the EU, which we don’t see at this stage. But we are convinced that the reason for this is not Georgia’s policy but rather European bureaucratic policy toward Georgia. So, if this policy changes, everything will improve,” Kobakhidze declares.
