"The crisis in the Russian economy will have an impact on some sectors of Georgia, for example, wine exports may decline, but it will not destroy the entire economy," economist Soso Berikashvili says commenting on the stagflation forecast in Russia.

According to Berikashvili, Georgia's trade partnership is diversified and Russia's problems cannot bring down our country's economy.


"Russia is one of Georgia's important trade partners, and its economic crisis will not definitely positively affect our country. However, Georgia's trade partnership is sufficiently diversified, the Russian crisis will be destructive, but will not bring down our economy.

There are some things in which we depend on Russia. For example, wheat, flour, oil or gas imports, but, in general, our economy is not dependent on Russia. Therefore, I do not expect a particular catastrophe," the economist notes.

In Berikashvili’s words, a much serious problem for Georgia could be increased re-export to Kyrgyzstan, which then is carried out to Russia.


"It is difficult to predict what tariff policy Russia will choose in the coming years. It will be more political and Russia will decide what to impose on us and what not. We carry out exports to Russia, both direct and indirect..
