The Georgian Energy Development Fund and the State Fund of the United Arab Emirates "Masdar" have signed an agreement that envisages development of the solar power plant project.
According to Georgian Deputy Minister of Economy Romeo Mikautadze, the power plant planned to be built in the Gardabani municipality will reduce dependence on imports and diversify local sources of electricity supply. The project will also increase goal achievements concerning the development of renewable energy, the prevention of climate change, and the country's fulfillment of its obligations under the EU Association Agreement.
He says that in the near future it is planned to sign a memorandum with the Georgian government and conduct feasibility studies.
Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, the Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, notes that the project carried out by the company jointly with its partners in Georgia is an important example of cooperation between Georgia and the United Arab Emirates.
