As a rule, people drink more alcohol during the New Year holidays than any other time of the year. Сommersant was interested in sale volumes of alcoholic beverages in the first half of January. We got in touch with the chain of alcoholic beverage stores Smugglers. Managers of some branches say that holiday sales have fallen by almost 50% compared to previous years. In their words, sales have halved due to the current situation in the country.

The head of the chain markets Tornike Tabagari explains to Commersant that, as a rule, during the New Year, demand for alcoholic beverages soars by about 150%, but this year it has declined.

"In the pre-New Year period and during the New Year, people mainly drink sparkling wine and some types of whiskey. During the holiday period, beverage sales usually shoot up by 150%. Amid protests in the country, demand for drinks has decreased this year," says Tornike Tabagari.

The head of the chain markets notes that "Smugglers" has more outlets this year than last year, now the company owns 15 stores in Tbilisi.

"Compared to last year, we had more outlets. We added chain outlets, as a result, sales have increased, Tornike Tabagari stresses.
