According to the Georgian government’s decision, in 2024 farmers growing nuts will be provided with financial support from the budget in the amount of GEL 29 million, the Ministry of Agriculture reports.
The program to boost the nut production Assistance provides subsidies for the cost of agrochemicals and pesticides to care for the nuts. The financing program applies to farmers who own walnut orchards with an area of at least 0.2 hectares and no more than 3 hectares. Financing will be GEL500 per hectare.
The targeted program started last November. In the country, more than 44,000 hectares of hazelnut orchards with an area of up to 90,000 hectares are registered in the nut cadastre. This year, farmers received about GEL 21 million to purchase hazelnut care products.
