According to the National Bank of Georgia, the number of debit cards in circulation (units) increased by 12.8% year-on-year, and by 1.2% compared to the previous month.
By the end of August 2025, there were 10,346,892 active debit cards on the market, compared to 9,176,105 cards a year earlier.
Mastercard continues to be the leading provider of debit cards in Georgia. Of all debit cards in circulation by the end of August 2025, 5,640,930 pcs. belong to Mastercard.
Current data on Mastercard cards shows an increase of 0.9% compared to July and 17.9% compared to August 2024.
As per August statistics, Mastercard owns 54.5% of active debit cards, VISA - 27.9%, and AMEX - 14.3%. The remaining debit cards are distributed among other systems.
By the end of August 2025, there were 2,888,980 active VISA cards in circulation that is 1.8% more compared with the previous month and 7.9% more than in August 2024.
The number of AMEX debit cards in August stood at 1,483,489 that is 1.4% more in monthly terms and 21.3% more in annual terms.
