“Trump’s threats to bring down Turkey’s  economy can’t be taken  seriously and  changes in economic relations between Georgia and Turkey can hardly be expected,” Giorgi Muchaidze, Executive Director of the Atlantic Council of Georgia, says.

“On one hand, there is Turkey which is our most important economic partner,  on the other,  the US -   our strategic partner. The conflict between these  countries  is of great importance for Georgia, but the cooperation between the US and Turkey and their  desire to  maintain still prevails. Thus, comprehensive and widespread US sanctions against the Turkish economy can hardly be expected, ”he said.

According to Muchaidze, if sanctions are adopted, they will primarily affect technology, military equipment, etc.

“The European Union’s position is of great importance. When the United States adopted sanctions against Iran, Washington had Europe’s consent. As for the measures against Turkey, Europe will not agree to close its market for Turkish products .Given all this,  it will not  have a serious impact on Georgia as the pressure on the Turkish economy will not be so strong to bring it down, ” Executive Director of the Atlantic Council of Georgia notes.
